I had waited the whole year for this year’s summer trip and our time in France was nothing short of amazing. We travelled from Lyon to Valence to Le Cheylard back to Lyon and then Annecy & Évian. It was more of an adventure-filled trip than a relaxed trip and although we did do a lot of ‘relaxing’ by the beach and the lakes, it was still somewhat taxing (mentally, mostly) for me as I don’t really enjoy sunbathing or ‘lepak’ all that much. Plus, we did have to cycle 10km uphill to get to one of the lakes so that was tough haha.
Our first adventure was hiking Les Trois Becs and then that night we camped in front of Gaetan’s dad’s front yard before we went water-hiking along Le Toulourenc the next day, my personal favourite. It was the most refreshing hike I had ever done, so worth the sweaty hike back to the car! We then continued our journey to Le Cheylard, where Gaetan lives. We barbecued, cycled, stargazed on a hammock, went kayaking, visited a bee farm, swam in a lake and all kinds of cool stuff! We only spent 1 day in Lyon though which I think is a shame because I would’ve really liked spending some time in the city and explore some city life in France but hey, maybe next time.
We also got to watch the fireworks during The Annecy Lake Festival (Fête du lac d’Annecy). This was a bit special to me because Halif and I talked about this festival as friends when we first met 2 years ago (before we even thought anything would ever happen between us :p) and at that moment it seemed far-fetched to me. I really thought that there was no way for me to be able to see it but there we were! My butt hurt from sitting on a rock because we didn’t want to pay for the paid seating but it was worth the 75 minutes of breathtaking fireworks. I did get a little bored after a while haha. I think I probably would’ve enjoyed it even more if we didn’t have to watch it from such a distance but it was still as incredible as I thought it would be 2 years ago, maybe even more so.
We did some normal tourist stuff in Thonon & Évian and I quite enjoyed it. It’s always nice to do some sight-seeing after days of adventures. I didn’t get a lot of pictures towards the end of the trip because I sort of lost the mood for it.
France was a lot of fun and I can’t wait to come back and explore more!
